@BamaStateSB begins four game road trip Wednesday afternoon

Lady Hornets face North Alabama before traveling to UAPB

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After playing 15 of their first 22 games at home to open the season, Alabama State hits the road to close out the month of March beginning with a four game road trip that starts in Florence (Ala.) Wednesday afternoon.

Alabama State (12-10) faces North Alabama (13-7) at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium Wednesday afternoon, before staying on the road to face UAPB over the weekend in Arkansas. First pitch for Wednesday is scheduled for 2 pm.

The four games this week are part of 12 consecutive games on the road for Alabama State, who returns home April 12 against Alabama A&M.

The Lady Hornets enter the midweek game winners of four of their last five games, including a three-game sweep of Grambling State to open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play over the weekend. In that series, Alabama State outscored the Tigers 19-4 and that included a shortened 12-0 contest due to the run rule to close the series Saturday.

Vanessa Bradford leads the Lady Hornets at the plate, hitting .480 in 25 official at-bats with four extra base hits – including a pair of home runs – and nine runs batted in. Alexis Sydnor, the reigning SWAC Hitter of the Week, is hitting .452 with 18 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. She has collected 28 hits – including eight extra base hits – and hit .778 in the three game sweep of Grambling State this past weekend.

Teah Steel is hitting .360 with a pair of doubles and six runs batted in, while Kristin Gunter is hitting .333 with 12 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. Gunter has collected six extra base hits, including five doubles. Meanwhile, Jordan Amerson rounds out those hitting .300 or better on the season as she is hitting .303 with 10 hits in 33 official at-bats.

As a team, Alabama State is hitting .293 with 108 runs scored. They have collected 168 hits on the season that include 38 extra base hits – including 26 doubles.

Meanwhile, in the circle, Charlene Castro (2-1) leads the team with a 1.56 earned run average in 31.1 innings pitched; while Bradford (4-4) has recorded a 2.93 earned run average in 43.0 innings pitched. Justine Jean (6-5, 3.08 ERA) leads the Lady Hornets in innings pitched (72.2), appearances (13), starts (12) and strikeouts (45) through the first 22 games of the season.
