BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State claimed three of the four Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) track and field athletes of the week this week, announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
David East was named the SWAC Male Track Athlete of the Week after he recorded a pair of top five finishes in individual competition at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge, before helping the 4x100-meter relay to a first-place finish. He finished third in the 100-meters with a personal-best time of 10.55 seconds and finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.22 seconds, missing a new personal-best mark by less than two-tenths of a second. East is the number one ranked SWAC athlete in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events.
Meanwhile,
Marcus Cade was named the Field of the Week. The conference's number one ranked athlete in the high jump and long jump, Cade finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 2.00 meters (6-06.75 feet) during the UCF Black and Gold Challenge. In the long jump competition, he finished third overall with a jump of 7.18 meters (23-06.75 feet), while he finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.82 meters (45-04.25).

Nia Jack was named the SWAC Female Track Athlete of the Week after she set new personal-best marks in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events in individual competition at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge. She finished fourth in the 100-meter dash – the first of two top 10 finishes for Jack on the weekend – in a time of 11.66 seconds. She also finished eighth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.21 seconds, before helping the 4x100-meter relay team to a second-place finish in the event.
Alabama State returns to action this week at the University of North Florida beginning Thursday.
