@BamaStateBB returns home for midweek contest against North Alabama Tuesday night

Hornets return home after five-game road trip, travel to Jacksonville State Wednesday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home for the first time in over a week, hosting North Alabama at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex Tuesday night.

Alabama State (13-12, 8-3 SWAC) enters the midweek contest fresh off a five-game road swing with games at Morehead State and Jackson State last week. The Hornets captured two of the five games, and claimed their fourth Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series in the process with a come-from-behind victory Sunday over Jackson State.

Noel Cheneau led Alabama State last week at the plate, hitting .353 with a pair of doubles and a home run. He also added four runs and six runs batted in, with three stolen bases. Cheneau closed out the week with a double, home run and four runs batted in against Jackson State Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, Yamil Pagan finished at .348 for the week with four runs scored and a pair of RBI as he picked up eight hits in 23 at-bats. On the mound, Darren Kelly and Ricardo Rivera both picked up wins for the Hornets; while Jeremy Rivera picked up a save in the Sunday victory.

On the season, Eriq White continues to lead Alabama State at the plate hitting .356 with eight extra base hits. He has driven in 23 runs and scored another 33 – good for fifth in the nation. Meanwhile, Pagan is hitting .340 and his tied for the team lead with four home runs while driving in 21 runs and scoring 34 – good for fourth in the nation.

Cheneau raised his average to .330 on the season over the course of the week with 13 extra base hits for the Hornets. He has scored 20 runs and driven in 32, which places him in the top 10 in the country. The senior has four triples which is the fourth best total in the country through this weekend. Meanwhile, Santiago Garcia is hitting .300 with four home runs and 28 runs batted in that has him in the top 25 in the nation in that category.

As a team, Alabama State is 18th in the nation in scoring at 7.8 runs per game, and 22nd in the nation in stolen bases with 46. The Hornets are also in the top 20 in hit batters (12th), hit by pitch (14th) and runs (12th). They are also in the top 50 in the nation in hits (41st) entering the week.

Gage Dollar (1-2, 13.50 ERA), who came out of the bullpen last week, is the probable starter for the Hornets on Tuesday against North Alabama. The sophomore has logged 13.1 innings this season for Alabama State with a pair of starts.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex, and the game will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network beginning at 5:45 pm. Admission is $5 for each home game at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
