MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State will hit the road for a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against Jackson State on Thursday and Friday.
First pitch is set for 5 pm on Thursday with a doubleheader scheduled for Friday at 12 pm, with the second game to follow at 2 pm. The series was originally scheduled for Friday-Saturday, with the Lady Hornets facing Mercer on Wednesday of this week; however, due to weather the series was moved up a day and the Mercer contest was moved to April 24.
A LOOK AT THE LADY HORNETS
- The Lady Hornets are 14-12 overall and 5-1 in the conference after winning the series over UAPB with two wins on Saturday.
- Charlene Castro leads the team in the circle with an ERA of 1.34, while Justine Jean leads the team in appearances, innings pitched and strikeouts.
- Alexis Sydnor and Vanessa Bradford both lead Alabama State with a pair of homeruns each, while Sydnor has a .446 batting average to go along with 23 runs scored and 17 RBI.
- Sydnor leads four players who are hitting .300 or better; with Kristin Gunter being the only other hitter meeting the NCAA requirements to be listed nationally. She is hitting .370 on the season for the Lady Hornets.
A LOOK AT JACKSON STATE
- The Lady Tigers are coming off of an 11-1 loss to Prairie View on Sunday in which the Panthers swept the weekend series.
- Kelsey Smith leads Jackson with a .247 batting average and one home run, while Kayla Owens leads the Tigers in the circle with 42 strikeouts and and ERA of 5.50.
- Jackson State enters the game with an overall record of 7-25 and 2-4 in the conference.
WHAT'S NEXT
- Alabama State stays on the road, facing Troy April 2 in Troy (Ala.), and will stay on the road until they return home to face Alabama A&M April 12.
