@BamaStateBowl finishes third at Mardi Gras Challenge

Alabama State defeated Southern in consolation match

BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State finished third in the Mardi Gras Challenge Sunday afternoon, defeating Southern in their final match of the tournament.

The Lady Hornets fell to Southern to start bracket play Sunday, losing 4-3 after dropping the final two games of the series. Alabama State jumped ahead 2-0 with wins in the first two games, including a 222-146 win in the opening game. Southern was able to tie the series at 2-all, before Alabama State won game five 181-133 before Southern went on their run to win the series.

Alabama State came back and swept Grambling State 4-0 in the consolation bracket, before beating Alabama A&M 4-1 in their next series. After dropping the first game, the Lady Hornets stormed back and won four games in a row, including a 206-116 victory in the fourth game.

The Lady Hornets faced Southern for the second time on the day and came away with a 4-0 victory to claim third in the tournament. The Hornets hit over 200 pins in two of the four games, including 204 in the first game.

Alabama State returns to action at the TNBA Invitational in two weeks in Gulfport (Miss.).
