ACWORTH, Ga. | After hosting three home tournaments, Alabama State will hit the field at Patriot Park Saturday morning for their first road tournament as they look to end a three-game losing streak.
Alabama State (8-8) will play four games in two days, beginning with the first game of the tournament against Tennessee State at 9 am (est). They will play back-to-back games on the opening day of the tournament, facing Delaware State at 11:30 am (est) to end their first day of competition.
The Lady Hornets return to the field Sunday (March 10) in the opening game of day two when they take on Savannah State beginning at 8:00 am (est), before finishing off play against Prairie View A&M in non-conference action at 10:30 am (est).
As a team, the Lady Hornets enter the weekend hitting .283 with 23 extra base hits – including 15 doubles, four triples and four home runs. They have scored 79 runs on the season through the first 16 games, and have recorded 19 stolen bases. On the mound, the Lady Hornets have recorded a 3.14 earned run average in 107.0 innings pitched and have recorded 66 strikeouts.
Offensively, five players are hitting over .300 for the season for Alabama State including two-way player
Vanessa Bradford (pitching/hitting). She is hitting .444 on the season in 18 official at-bats, recording eight hits and driving in six runs.
Alexis Sydnor, who has the most at-bats of anyone hitting over .300 (42), is hitting .381 with 17 total hits that includes three doubles and a home run (11 RBI). Meanwhile,
Hailey Walker (.324) has three extra base hits,
Teah Steel (.400) has two and
Jordan Amerson (.321) has a double on the season.
On the mound,
Charlene Castro (1-1) has recorded a team-leading 1.91 earned run average in 22.0 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts – and just three walks. Meanwhile,
Justine Jean (3.43, 3.43 ERA) has logged the most innings at 51.0 and has recorded 33 strikeouts; while Bradford (3-4, 3.50 ERA) has logged 34.0 innings and recorded 20 strikeouts.
