MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action in a key series against Alcorn State beginning Friday at 6 pm at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
The series will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 and 3 pm where the Lady Hornets will honor the Class of 2019.
Alabama State (17-19, 8-6 SWAC) is looking to get back in the win column after dropping a non-conference game against Auburn on Wednesday.
Alexis Sydnor leads the team in hitting at .417, while
Vanessa Bradford is at .362 and
Kristin Gunter is at .333 with 11 extra base hits.
Charlene Castro (3-2) leads the team in earned run average at 2.43, while
Justine Jean (7-10, 5.64 ERA) leads the team in appearance, innings and wins. Bradford (7-7, 4.42 ERA), who pulls double duty, is tied for the team lead in wins.
Alcorn State (12-17, 8-4) has won eight of their last nine conference games, including a series win over Jackson State in their last contest to move into a tie atop the East Division with Alabama A&M.
Simone McKinney leads the Lady Braves at the plate with a .341 batting average and a team-high eight multi-hit games, while Desirea Lindsey is at .275. Paige Taylor (9-7) leads Alcorn State in the circle, entering the game as the reigning SWAC Pitcher of the Week with a 2.56 ERA and 6-1 record in conference.
Admission is free to the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
