@BamaStateBB set to host three midweek games beginning Tuesday

Alabama State and South Alabama will resume their game from February on Tuesday

MONTGOMERY, Ala.| Alabama State begins a seven-game home stand to close out play at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex for the season against South Alabama Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader, followed by a single game against Florida A&M Wednesday.

Alabama State (22-17) and South Alabama will resume a game that was postponed due to fog back on February 19 in Mobile (Ala.) at 3 pm Tuesday afternoon. The game will begin with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning and South Alabama leading 4-1, and then the two teams will play their regularly scheduled game 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest.

The Hornets will then face Florida A&M for the second time in three weeks at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm. The two last met in Montgomery back on April 9, an 8-5 victory by the Rattlers.

All three games will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network, beginning with pregame 15 minutes prior to each contest.

The Hornets enter the weekend fresh off a series win over Alabama A&M on the road, claiming their seventh conference series of the season with just one remaining. Alabama State has won six of their last eight games, but they are also looking for their second midweek win of the season. Their only midweek win of the season came on the road March 27 at Jacksonville State, and the Hornets have just five midweek games remaining on the schedule.

Yamil Pagan leads the Hornets at the plate, hitting .362 from his lead off position with 18 extra base hits. He leads the team in home runs with 10 and runs scored with 56 (third in the nation), and has also driven in 40 with a .638 slugging percentage. Meanwhile, Noel Cheneau leads the team in runs batted in through 39 games with 52, while also hitting .353. He has recorded 21 extra base hits, including nine home runs and four triples; while leading the team in stolen bases with 18.

Santiago Garcia leads three other hitters at .300 or better on the season, hitting .331 with 13 doubles and eight home runs. He is second on the team in runs batted in with 51, while also being named to the Buster Posey Watch List. Eriq White (.325) and Angel Jimenez (.305) are each over .300 this season, with White collecting 11 doubles; while Jimenez has seven extra base hits.

While the starters have yet to be named for the three games this midweek for the Hornets, a pair of seniors lead the team in earned run average and a pair of freshman lead the team in wins. Darren Kelly (5-1, 2.61 ERA) and Terrell McCall (0-1, 3.81 ERA) lead the team in earned run average, with Kelly leading in strikeouts (54) and McCall in saves (three). Meanwhile, Jeremy Rivera (6-2, 3.88 ERA, 1 SV) and Ricardo Rivera (5-2, 4.70 ERA) lead the team in wins, along with Kelly on the weekends. Nate Gerard (2-0, 3.98 ERA), another senior, leads the team in appearances this season with 17.
