@BamaStateSB hits the road to face a pair of teams in Georgia

Alabama State will face Savannah State and Mercer

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road this week for a pair of non-conference games in the state of Georgia, with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament three weeks away in Montgomery.
 
The Lady Hornets face Savannah State Tuesday afternoon in a single game beginning at 4 pm (est), before taking on Mercer in a make-up game on Wednesday beginning at 5 pm.
 
Alabama State (19-20, 10-7 SWAC) enters the contest after winning their series against Alcorn State last weekend. Alexis Sydnor leads the team in hitting at .415, while Vanessa Bradford is hitting at a .373 clip and Kristin Gunter .358 entering the week. They lead a contingent of eight hitters of .300 or better on the season for the Lady Hornets.
 
Amira James leads the team in home runs with seven after recording three last weekend against Alcorn State in the series win – including a pair in the last game.
 
Charlene Castro (4-2) leads the team in earned run average at 2.40, while Justine Jean (8-11, 5.69 ERA) leads the team in appearances, innings and wins.
 
Savannah State (6-26, 1-11 MEAC) has lost their last eight games, including a series loss to North Carolina Central. Stacie Smith leads the Lady Tigers at the plate with a .427 batting average, 41 hits and 21 runs; while Peyton Mitchell is at .297 with 14 runs batted in. Tanisha Williams (3-6) leads Savannah State in the circle with a 5.23 ERA and 23 strikeouts.
 
Meanwhile, Mercer (21-24, 7-4 SoCon) split the doubleheader with Samford in their last outing over the weekend. The Bears are led by Danielle Castleberry who is hitting .366, and Allie Jones at .319 on the season. Bailey Pattison (10-8) leads Mercer with a 3.59 earned run average, while Lynn Gardner (9-9) leads the team in strikeouts with 60.
