MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road to face Jacksonville State Wednesday in their final non-conference game before the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament.
The game against Jacksonville State is scheduled for 5 pm, with live coverage provided by ESPN+.
Alabama State (20-21, 10-7 SWAC) enters the contest after splitting two road games, defeating Savannah State and falling to Mercer last week.
Alexis Sydnor leads the team in hitting at .415, while
Vanessa Bradford is hitting at a .370 clip and
Kristin Gunter .346 entering the week. They lead a contingent of six hitters of .300 or better on the season for the Lady Hornets, while
Amira James has recorded eight homeruns.
Charlene Castro (4-2) leads the team in earned run average at 2.40, while
Justine Jean (9-11, 5.59 ERA) leads the team in appearances, innings and wins.
Jacksonville State (33-13, 17-5 OVC) split their last series against Southeast Missouri to clinch a share of their conference title. Taylor Beshears leads the Gamecocks at the plate with a .404 batting average, 61 hits and 41 runs; while Karsen Mosley is at .339 with 38 runs.
Faith Sims (20-4) leads the Gamecocks in the circle as the two-time reigning OVC Player of the Week after throwing 17.1 hitless innings, including two no-hitters last week. Sims has recorded 11 shutouts this season, the second-most by any player in Division I.
