@BamaStateBB set for a pair of midweek games against Florida A&M and at Troy

Alabama State has not played a midweek game since March 27

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to midweek action this week for the first time since March 27 when they host Florida A&M at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex Tuesday afternoon, and travel to Troy Wednesday night.

The last time Alabama State (16-13) hit the field for a midweek game was back on March 27 when they defeated Jacksonville State 9-5 for their first midweek win of the season.

The Hornets face Florida A&M (12-22) for the first of two games at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex this season, hosting the Rattlers at 4 pm Tuesday afternoon. Alabama State enters the week after winning a pair of games over Mississippi Valley State over the weekend in which they pounded out seven home runs in the doubleheader sweep. The two teams will meet again April 24 in Montgomery.

Alabama State hits the road to face Troy (16-15) Wednesday night for the first of two games against the Trojans this season with first pitch scheduled for 6 pm at Riddle-Pace Field. Since 2001, the two teams have met 20 times with Troy holding a 16-4 advantage, including winning both games last season. The two teams will meet again April 30 in Montgomery at Riverwalk Stadium in the second annual MAX Stingfest.

Yamil Pagan leads Alabama State offensively, hitting .357 with a team-high seven home runs. The senior is currently 12th in the nation in runs scored (36), and 11th in runs scored per game this season. Meanwhile, Noel Cheneau is hitting .347 on the season, and is currently 16th in the nation in triples (four) and 24th in runs batted in (38). He is also 20th in the nation in runs batted in per game (1.31).

Eriq White and Santiago Garcia are each over .300 for the season, with White hitting .314 with 34 runs scored and eight extra base hits. Meanwhile, Garcia is hitting .307 with five home runs and 31 runs batted in for the Hornets.

On the mound, Darren Kelly (4-0, 1.18 ERA) leads the Hornets on the season, but it will be Ricardo Rivera (3-1, 4.64 ERA) getting the start against Florida A&M Tuesday afternoon after missing his start on Sunday at Mississippi Valley State due to rain. Darrius Wright (2-2, 8.07 ERA), who has not pitched since March 22 at Jackson State will also see action this week for the Hornets.

Both games will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network, beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch. Admission to the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex is $5 for Tuesday afternoon's contest, and tickets can be purchased at the gate the day of the game.
