MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State opens the 2019 campaign in familiar territory, running in the Strut's Season Opener hosted by Jacksonville State in Oxford (Ala.) Friday night. The race will be run at Choccolocco Park beginning at 6 pm.
Alabama State finished eighth on the women's side last year, while the men finished 12th overall in the event. The Lady Hornets used the race as standard for the 2018 season, building off the performance en route to the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship.
What to Watch For - from 2018 Strut's Season Opener
Last season,
Mariyah Archibald finished 11th overall in her first collegiate race with a time of 20:05.10, while teammate
Vinnelle Grant finished 34th overall with a time of 21:09.20.
Arion Span came across the line in a time of 22:24.10, while
Hannah Mezidor finished with a time of 23:18.70 to complete the times for the four runners returning from last season.
On the men's side,
Daniel Quizon was the top finisher in a time of 17:26.10; while
Kevin Smith finished close behind him in a time of 17:26.30. Meanwhile,
Colby Clark finished with a time of 18:37.90 and
Camrin Lamb finished with a time of 21:36.50.
The race is one of three consecutive races to open the season, before the Hornets take a week off in week four of the 2019 campaign.
