@BamaStateBowl second in standings after Day One of SWAC Roundup

DALLAS, Texas | Alabama State finds itself in second place following the opening day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) West Roundup at USA Bowl Friday, winning three matches in the process.

Alabama State (29-27, 3-1 SWAC) opened the day by dropping 860 pins in their bye match, before dropping their only match of the day to Prairie View A&M 956-894. Following the loss, the Lady Hornets reeled off three consecutive victories to keep pace with Prairie View A&M, starting with a 928-882 victory over Jackson State.

They followed that up with a 916-623 victory over Grambling State, and closed the day with an 898-801 victory over Southern.

Alabama State is one of three teams, joining Jackson State and Texas Southern, who finished the day with a 3-1 record – just a half game behind Prairie View A&M who finished 4-1. Although they are second in the win-loss portion of the standings, Alabama State leads in total pins with 4,496 – 34 points better than Prairie View A&M.

Allison Sledge had the best individual performance on the opening day of the Roundup, finishing with 929 pins and an average of 185.80. Her performance placed her fourth after the opening day, while Gabrielle Hosein finished the opening day fifth overall with 928 pins and an average of 185.60. Meanwhile, Miranda Remmel (seventh) and Alize Stevenson (ninth) each finished in the top 10 after the opening day.

The Lady Hornets have five matches on day two of the roundup, beginning with Texas Southern Saturday morning.
