TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State finished third in the 2020 Rattler Invitational, finishing just behind the host Florida A&M and Jackson State Sunday afternoon.
Alabama State (44-32) dropped their first match of the day to Florida A&M 4-3 after falling behind early in the match. The Lady Hornets fell behind 2-1 overall before winning game four (203-202) and game five (169-167) to take a 3-2 lead. However, Florida A&M came back with wins in the last two games to force Alabama State into a match with Jackson State.
The Lady Hornets won the first game of the match, before Jackson State came back for four straight wins to claim a 4-1 victory; however, Alabama State was able to win their final match of the day over Southern with a clean sweep 4-0. The Lady Hornets won by just four pins in the opening game, before running away with a 208-149 victory in the second for a 2-0 lead. After a win in game three, they finished off the sweep with a 192-170 victory in the final game.
Individually,
Bailee Chapman finished third overall with an average of 186.80, while
Emani Davis finished fifth (181.80) and
Allison Sledge seventh (179.80).
Alabama State returns to action February 7 at the SWAC East Roundup as they continue the chase for the regular season conference championship, heading into the weekend atop the conference standings.
