MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State softball will jump back into tournament action this weekend when the Lady Hornets meet up with Auburn and UNCW for the 2020 Plainsman Invitational at Jane B Moore Field Friday and Saturday.
 
The Lady Hornets (2-4) will begin the action with a noon matchup against UNCW Friday, then will face host Auburn at 5 p.m. On Saturday, ASU will play in true doubleheader fashion – meeting UNCW at 12 p.m. then Auburn immediately following at 2:30 p.m.
 
Last time out, Alabama State fought hard early but fell to Mississippi State in mid-week play Wednesday night. The bright spot came after the game, however, as junior pitcher Skyler Sullivan was named the SWAC Pitcher of the Week for her performance last weekend at the Lion Classic.

QUICK HITTERS

• Skyler Sullivan was named the SWAC Pitcher of the Week after dominating opposing batters in her first four appearances of the 2020 season. Sullivan struck out 10 and didn't allow a hit or a run in 11.0 innings of work.
• Alabama State was picked to win the East Division and repeat as SWAC Champions this season on a vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
• Alabama State had four players named Preseason All-Conference by the SWAC this season, including returning Newcomer of the Year Alexis Sydnor.
• Joining Sydnor in being named All-SWAC were first baseman Hailey Walker, third baseman Alexis Massie and pitcher Justine Jean.
• The Hornets have played in five consecutive SWAC championship games, winning the tournament in both 2016 and 2019. Last season, they advanced to the NCAA Regionals in Tuscaloosa.
