@BamaStateBowl finishes 15th at Mid-Winter Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. | Alabama State finished the weekend 15th overall at the Mid-Winter Classic hosted by Arkansas State, finishing ahead of conference foes Alabama A&M and Grambling State.

Alabama State (55-56) started the weekend off dropping three consecutive matches against nationally-ranked opponents Maryville (920-894), Louisiana Tech (1028-892) and Stephen F. Austin (1001-811) before picking up their first win of the day against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Alabama A&M.

The Hornets also dropped matches to nationally-ranked Drury (963-906), Nebraska (984-883) and Sam Houston State (896-858) before bouncing back with a victory over Jackson State (964-913). The Lady Hornets ended the day with a 1125-903 loss to Tulane.

On the final day of competition, Alabama State began bracket play with a 4-1 win over Drury (188-220, 195-171, 236-173, 204-163, 193-176). Following that match, the Lady Hornets fell to Maryville 4-2 (171-210, 190-192, 161-165, 167-151, 140-203). In their final match of the week, Alabama State defeated Drury 4-2 (195-182, 178-136, 181-197, 171-213, 183-175, 258-188).

Alabama State returns to action next weekend at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Baton Rouge (La.).
