@BamaStateSB Set to Host Black and Gold Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State softball will host another non-conference tournament at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex this weekend as it welcomes four teams for the 2020 Black and Gold Tournament starting Friday at 10 a.m.
 
Alabama State (6-9) will face off with Eastern Kentucky, Mercer, Nicholls and Southern Miss over the weekend. The Lady Hornets will play Eastern Kentucky Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 4:30, Mercer at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nicholls at 7 p.m. Saturday and will wrap up with Southern Miss at 1 p.m. Sunday.

QUICK HITTERS
  • The three-peat. Alexis Sydnor became the third Alabama State player in as many weeks to start the season to claim SWAC weekly honors after batting 8-for-11 with five RBIs and three doubles last weekend. Skyler Sullivan and Alexa Veamoi were named the SWAC Pitchers of the Week the previous two weeks.
  • Alabama State was picked to win the East Division and repeat as SWAC Champions this season on a vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
  • Alabama State had four players named Preseason All-Conference by the SWAC this season, including returning Newcomer of the Year Alexis Sydnor.
  • Joining Sydnor in being named All-SWAC were first baseman Hailey Walker, third baseman Alex Massie and pitcher Justine Jean.
  • The Hornets have played in five consecutive SWAC championship games, winning the tournament in both 2016 and 2019. Last season, they advanced to the NCAA Regionals in Tuscaloosa.
