MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State will commence its 2020 softball season this weekend when it heads to Hammond, Louisiana, for Southeastern Louisiana's Lion Classic Friday through Sunday. The Lady Hornets will begin the weekend and the season against UT Martin at 2 p.m. Friday.
After facing off with the Skyhawks, Alabama State will meet host Southeastern Louisiana at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Hornets will play back-to-back against Grambling State and UT Martin starting at 10 a.m. ASU will close the weekend Sunday morning against Buffalo.

- Alabama State was picked to win the East Division and repeat as SWAC Champions this season on a vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
- Alabama State had four players named Preseason All-Conference by the SWAC this season, including returning Newcomer of the Year Alexis Sydnor.
- Joining Sydnor in being named All-SWAC were first baseman Hailey Walker, third baseman Alexis Massie and pitcher Justine Jean.
- The Hornets have played in five conseutive SWAC championship games, winning the tournament in both 2016 and 2019. Last season, they advanced to the NCAA Regionals in Tuscaloosa. After falling to No. 8 Alabama in the opener, Alabama State dropped its season finale to Lipscomb to finish the year 25-27 overall.
