@BamaStateSB Heads to HBCU Classic for Final Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State will spend the final weekend of non-conference play taking on a few conference foes in the 2020 HBCU Classic at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Lady Hornets (7-13) will face Grambling at 11 a.m. and Southern at 3 p.m. Saturday, then will finish the weekend with Grambling at 9 a.m. and Prairie View A&M at 11 a.m. Sunday. Alabama State and Grambling have already faced-off twice in non-conference action this year, splitting the first two matchups.
 
As she has for most of the young season, Alexis Sydnor led Alabama State offensively last weekend – going 10-for-17 at the plate and accounting for almost all of the team's total hits. Sydnor was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week for her efforts all weekend at the tournament.

  • 4. In. A. Row. Alexis Sydnor was named the SWAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after recording 10 hits in six games last week. It marks the fourth time in as many weeks to start the season that an Alabama State player has earned a weekly honor – Skyler Sullivan (Feb. 10), Alexa Veamoi (Feb. 17) and Sydnor both of last two weeks (Feb. 24, March 2).
  • Alabama State was picked to win the East Division and repeat as SWAC Champions this season on a vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
  • Alabama State had four players named Preseason All-Conference by the SWAC this season, including returning Newcomer of the Year Alexis SydnorHailey Walker, Alex Massie and Justine Jean joined her on the list.
  • The Hornets have played in five consecutive SWAC championship games, winning the tournament in both 2016 and 2019.
