ATLANTA, Ga. | Alabama State dropped their first match of the TNBA/HBCU Invitational early Sunday morning before storming back to capture the title with a pair of victories in their final two matches of the day.
Alabama State (67-47) started the day with a 4-0 loss to Florida A&M, before winning a thrilling 4-3 contest against Jackson State. The Lady Hornets won the first game of the series 174-165, before Jackson State won back-to-back games to take a 2-1 lead. Trailing, Alabama State won the fourth game of the series 207-160 to tie the match at 2-all.
After a one-pin win by Jackson State gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead, Alabama State answered with a 227-195 victory to force a winner take all series in which the Lady Hornets claimed a 203-183 victory to move into the championship match.
Alabama State ran away from Florida A&M to capture the championship, winning the first game 227-182 before the Rattlers tied things up at 1-all. The Lady Hornets reeled off three consecutive victories (170-158, 198-187, 218-181) to capture the championship.
The Lady Hornets return to action March 20 at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships in Arlington (Texas).
