@BamaStateBB begins five-game homestand Tuesday night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State looks to extend their seven-game winning streak when they begin a five-game homestand Tuesday night, hosting Valparaiso at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Alabama State (13-3), fresh off their Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) sweep of Mississippi Valley State, will face Valparaiso in the series opener Tuesday night at 6 pm. The two teams will close out the series Wednesday night at 6 pm.

Game Notes
The Hornets pitching staff has put together a pair of streaks that are unforgettable this season, starting the year with 11 consecutive scoreless innings before reeling off 45 strikeouts in 27 innings over the weekend against Mississippi Valley State.

Jacknell Guzman, who leads the nation in complete games, threw his third this weekend with 16 strikeouts against Mississippi Valley State; while Breon Pooler followed that up with his fist win and picked up nine strikeouts. Meanwhile, Austin King rattled off 11 in the Sunday start.

Alabama State has pounded out 41 extra base hits this season, including 20 doubles and 13 home runs. Five different players – Jabronski Williams, Ian Matos, Trenton Jamison, Angel Jimenez and Cristopher DeGuzman – have hit a pair of home runs each.

The Hornets currently rank 12th in the nation in walks with 91 as a team, while they are also ranked 10th in triples, 15th in triples per game and 21st in win-loss percentage.

The Hornets are 13-0 on the weekend this season, and 0-3 during midweek contests. They had a Tuesday game against UAB postponed until March 18 earlier this week due to rain.
