MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State softball will head north to Jacksonville for one final non-conference test before Southwestern Athletic Conference action begins this weekend against Texas Southern.
The Lady Hornets (10-14) won three of its four games at the HBCU Classic in New Orleans last weekend, allowing just three runs combined in its three wins. The Gamecocks (11-9) are coming off a clean sweep of UTSA and Samford in four games at the Jacksonville State Invite.

- 4. In. A. Row. Alexis Sydnor was named the SWAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after recording 10 hits in six games last week. It marks the fourth time in as many weeks to start the season that an Alabama State player has earned a weekly honor – Skyler Sullivan (Feb. 10), Alexa Veamoi (Feb. 17) and Sydnor both of last two weeks (Feb. 24, March 2).
- Alabama State was picked to win the East Division and repeat as SWAC Champions this season on a vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
- Alabama State had four players named Preseason All-Conference by the SWAC this season, including returning Newcomer of the Year Alexis Sydnor – Hailey Walker, Alex Massie and Justine Jean joined her on the list.
- The Hornets have played in five consecutive SWAC championship games, winning the tournament in both 2016 and 2019.
