DALLAS | Alabama State leads the pack after the opening day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) West Round-Up at USA Bowl Saturday.
 
Alabama State (4-1, 4-1 SWAC) won its first four matches of the day before falling to Southern in the fifth match. The Lady Hornets opened the day by taking down Texas Southern 919-839, before dropping a day-high 967 pins to down Jackson State in its second traditional match.
 
In the third and fourth matches, Alabama State beat Grambling, 900-581, and host Prairie View A&M, 898-877. The Lady Hornets are a game ahead of Jackson State, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern, who all finished the day 3-2. They have the third highest pin total at 4,431, an average of 177.2 per game.
 
Freshman Savanna Razor had the best individual performance of the day, finishing with the second-most pins at 1,061 and an average of 212.2 per game. Razor's freshman counterpart, Emily Price, finished the day in fourth after knocking down an average of 190.00 pins per game.
 
Also finishing in the top 10 of the individual performances were Emani Davis and Miranda Remmel, who finished in seventh and eighth, respectively.
 
The Lady Hornets have five more matches on day two of the Round-Up Sunday, beginning with Jackson State and Texas Southern before finishing the weekend with Prairie View A&M, Southern and Grambling State.
 
Day one of the tournament was originally scheduled for Friday but rolling power outages forced the Round-Up to be moved back to Saturday and Sunday.
