MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State had five players selected to the Perfect Game Preseason All-Conference Team, including four pitchers, announced by the organization this week.

Jacknell Guzman, one of three starting pitchers on the team, finished the shortened 2020 season with a 3-0 record with three complete games in four starts. He logged 30.2 innings, allowed just seven earned runs, and finished with a 2.05 earned run average, earning Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors.

He was joined on the team by the other two weekend starters for the Hornets in Breon Pooler and Austin King. Pooler returned from an injury in 2019 to finish with a 1-0 record (with a save), and a 0.52 earned run average in 17.1 innings pitched. He allowed just one earned run on 15 hits. Meanwhile, King finished the shortened season with a 2-0 record in four starts with a 3.32 earned run average. He allowed just eight earned runs on the year.

The trio combined for 81 strikeouts in 12 games.

They were joined on the staff by reliever Britt Buckelew who finished the shortened season with a 1-0 record and one save in five appearances. He logged 15.2 innings of work, recording a 1.15 earned run average while allowing just three total runs (two earned).

Meanwhile, Trenton Jamison earned the nod at third base after hitting .302 in 53 official at-bats. He collected 16 hits that included a pair of doubles, a triple, and two home runs. He scored eight runs and drove in 13 more while slugging .491 in 15 games.

Alabama State opens the season in New Orleans on the road in the MLB Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm in the MLB Classic.
