MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State opens the 2021 season on the road this weekend at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane, beginning on Friday and running through Sunday.
Alabama State (26-14, 15-5 SWAC in the shortened 2021 season) will face five teams who were selected for the 2021 NCAA Tournament last season including Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) for Prairie View A&M. Other teams in the tournament who were selected for the NCAAs include Louisiana Tech, North Carolina A&T, Sam Houston State, and Vanderbilt.
The remainder of the field includes the host team Tulane, Florida A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Jackson State, UMES, Texas Southern, Grambling State, and ULM.
Savanna Razor (Columbia, S.C.) returns for her second season after being named the SWAC Freshman and SWAC Bowler of the Year last season. She finished the regular season in conference play with a 202.25 average pinfall and amassed a league-leading 4,005 total pins. She was named to the All-NTCA Freshman Team and was named honorable mention in the NTCA Central Region.
Meanwhile,
Bailee Chapman (Gonzales, La.) also returns for her senior season after earning All-Tournament honors at the conference tournament in 2019.
The last time Alabama State bowled in New Orleans (La.) was during the 2019 season when they finished 10th in the then-named All-State Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational hosted by Tulane.
This year's tournament will be held at Colonial Lanes in Harahan (La.) and will feature a three-day schedule with pools and lane draws determined at the Friday morning coaches meeting. The entire tournament will be scratch, and the bracket will be based on total pins. Teams will compete in five, 5 game Baker matches on Friday, followed by five traditional matches on Saturday.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with bracket play, with three matches of best four out of seven. The final positions will be determined after the bracket results.
