TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State grabbed three wins on the opening day of the Rattler Invitational, with all three coming against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponents.
Alabama State (9-9) started the day with an 848-800 win over conference-foe Southern, the first meeting of the year between the two teams, before picking up their second consecutive win over a conference team when they defeated Grambling State 767-615.
The Lady Hornets dropped their first match of the tournament to Emmanuel, 1052-832, before picking up their third and final win of the opening day over the host – Florida A&M – in their fourth match of the day, 899-780. They dropped their final match of the day to Jackson State, 909-869.
The tournament will feature traditional play on Saturday with Alabama State facing Southern in the opening match, before facing Florida A&M, Jackson State, Grambling State, and Emmanuel.
They enter the second day of competition in a tie for second (with identical 3-2 records) with Jackson State and Southern but are third in total pins (4,215) and average (168.6).
