TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State roared back from a pair of setbacks on Friday with five wins on Saturday, coming back from nearly 400 pins down to finish just 18 pins back of Emmanuel in traditional play at the Rattler Invitational.
The Lady Hornets ended the day with an average of 178.5 and 8,926 pins; finishing just behind Emmanuel at 178.9 and 8,944. Alabama State amassed 4,711 total pins on day two of the tournament.
Alabama State (14-9) started the day with a 929-656 win over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Grambling State, before picking up another win over Southern 1,014-809. The followed that up with an 873-718 win over Grambling State and a 934-811 win over Jackson State. The final match of the day, the Lady Hornets picked up a 961-901 win over previously unbeaten Emmanuel.
Alahna DeGruy (Kenner, La.) picked up individual honors, the second consecutive tournament finishing in the top three, with 998 total pins and a 199.60.
Savanna Razor (Columbia, S.C.) finished second overall with 983 total pins and a 196.60 average.Â
Lyric O'Steen (Southfield, Mich.) finished third with 940 total pins and an average of 188.00, while
Bailee Chapman (Gonzales, La.) finished tied for fifth with 925 pins and a 185.00 average.
Meanwhile,
Emani Davis (Flushing, Mich.) finished 11th overall with 865 total pins and a 173.00 average.
Alabama State will take part in bracket play on Sunday with their first match against Emmanuel, with the winner of the match advancing straight to the championship match.
