TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Just one after sweeping traditional play, Alabama State swept through bracket play to win the Rattler Invitational for their first team title of the season.
Alabama State (17-9), winners of eight straight matches, started the day off with a 4-0 victory over top-seeded Emmanuel. They claimed the first game of the match 198-173, before going up 2-0 with a 190-179 pin total. After the two teams matched each other with 193 pins in game three, Alabama State reeled off back-to-back wins, 191-174 and 233-171 to move on in the winner's bracket.
They followed that match up with a 4-1 win over the host, Florida A&M, to earn a berth in the championship. Alabama State started strong with two straight wins including a 205-153 win in game one. After the Rattlers claimed game three (193-186), Alabama State won back-to-back games (159-142 / 170-157) to move on in bracket play.
In the championship match, Alabama State matched up with Emmanuel for the second time on the day, claiming a 4-1 victory for the title. The Lady Hornets roared out to a 3-0 lead including a 269-148 win in game two, before putting the match away in game five, 199-182, to win their first title of the season.
