HUNTSVILLE, Ala. |Â Alabama State competed against the largest field in recent memory at the UAH Invitational at John Hunt Park on Saturday morning, in their final regular season meet.
The Hornets ran in their fourth meet of the year, contending amongst 36 teams on the women's side and 34 teams on the men's side.

On the women's side,
Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) led a group of six runners for the Lady Hornets across the line in under 22 minutes, finishing with a time of 19:34.07. She was followed by
Vinelle Grant (Amityville, N.Y.) in a time of 20:21.83, along with Rebecca Bernardin (Turk and Caicos) who finished with a time of 20:42.14.
Penina Chelangat (Eldoret, Kenya) finished in a time of 21:06.96, slightly ahead of
Jamila Thomas (Lewisville, Texas) with a time of 21:58.27; while Coreyuna Mitchell-Shepherd (Maricopa, Ariz.) finished in a time of 27:46.60 to round out the team.

Meanwhile, on the men's side in the 8k,
Matthew Kibet (Eldoret, Kennya) led the Hornets, finishing with a time of 28:26.46; while
Kevin Smith (Sainnt Catherine, Jamaica) finished just over the 30-minute mark with a time of 31:24.30.Â
Preston Walton (Jonesboro, Ga.) ran a time of 31:35.78, followed by teammates
Kamari Garcon (Ocoee, Fla.) in 32:09.50 and
Lovensky Demelien (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)Â who in 33:30.39 to round out the competition for the Hornets.

Alabama State returns to action on Monday, October 18 at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships in Clinton, Mississippi.
