MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State won four matches on the opening day of the ISTAP Hornet Classic at Bowlero on Friday and sits fourth by just one pin after Baker play.
Alabama State (36-21) started the day with four consecutive wins with three over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) competition and one over in-state foe UAB, a team receiving votes in the top 25.
The Lady Hornets opened the day with a 992-763 victory over Alabama A&M and followed that up with an 891-858 victory over Jackson State. They finished off the day against conference competition with an 848-673 victory over Grambling State. With the trio of wins, Alabama State has started the season off winning 26 of 29 contests against SWAC foes.
Alabama State followed those three wins up with an 880-831 victory over UAB before falling to No. 9 Louisiana Tech 883-827 in their final match of the day. They are currently fourth with 4,438 pins just behind Tusculum.
