PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Alabama State heads west for a cross division matchup in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play against Prairie View A&M on Saturday afternoon.
The game will be the first for the Hornets under interim head coach
Travis Pearson, who took over the helm following the Magic City Classic. The meeting will be the first contest between the two since the fall of 2019 when the Panthers claimed a 20-17 victory. The meeting in Texas will be the first in the state between the two teams since 2018 (a 66-13 PVAMU victory).
Prairie View A&M (6-1, 5-0 SWAC) currently leads the West Division and is receiving votes in both the AFCA and FCS Stats Perform Top 25.

GAME NOTES
- Prairie View A&M has won the last six in the series between the two teams with the last Alabama State victory coming in 2013, the last of four consecutive victories. In three of the last six losses, the game has been decided by 10 points or loss, including two decided by one possession.
- Alabama State won 15 straight games at one point in the series from 1989 to 2006, and during that streak won 21 of 22 games.
- Senior running back Ezra Gray (Lynn Haven, Fla.) broke the 2,000-yard mark for his career against Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic last. He hit the 1,000-yard mark for his career against Alabama A&M in the 2019 Magic City Classic.
- Ryan Nettles (Evergreen, Ala.) made his return to the lineup, finishing with 243 yards on 24-for-38 passing in the contest. He connected on a pair of touchdowns to Wallace Corker (Stockbridge, Ga.) and hit Jeremiah Hixon (Monroeville, Ala.) ten times for 116 yards.
- Irshaad Davis (Carol City, Fla.) leads the Hornets defense with 40 total tackles including 24 solo stops. His best game came against UAPB when he finished with nine tackles. He also has an interception, two quarterback hurries, two sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss to go along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery this season. He returns to the lineup after missing the majority of the Magic City Classic after a targeting penalty.
- Jacquez Payton (Georgiana, Ala.) leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), and is 12th in the nation, in passes defended at 1.2 per game after missing last weekend's contest.
- Alabama State is in the top 40 in several categories including passing defense (24/189.3), quarterback sacks per game (34/2.43), time of possession (30/31:45), and total defense (41/348.1).
