MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State opens the 2021 season at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex beginning Friday afternoon and running through Sunday afternoon, hosting the Stinger Classic.
Alabama State opens play in the tournament against Western Carolina Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm, a tournament that will also feature Alabama, North Alabama, Notre Dame, and Tennessee Tech. The tournament begins at 12 noon Friday with three games scheduled, followed by a five-game day on Saturday beginning at 9 am, before ending on Sunday with three games.
The tournament will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network beginning Friday.
Only those listed on the player pass list will be allowed inside the Barbara Williams Softball Complex this season due to social distant seating and COVID-19 protocols. No tickets will be sold at any time for the venue, and masks are mandatory while visiting the Alabama State University campus and its athletic venues.
Alabama State (10-15 in 2020) returns several players from last season including SWAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year,
Vanessa Bradford who finished 8-10 during the 2019 championship season. She is joined by Preseason Second Team selection
Alex Massie who hit .314 in 2019 with five doubles and 17 runs batted in, and
Kindall DeRamus who finished the 2020 season hitting .380 with three extra base hits and 12 stolen bases to earn a place on the second team.
The Hornets also return
Kaley Anthony (.347-2-17), while also returning
Alexa Veamoi (4-2, 3.28 ERA) and
Skyler Sullivan (4-1, 3.36 ERA) in the circle.
