MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action this weekend in Birmingham, playing in the UAB Tournament beginning Friday afternoon against Nicholls State.
The tournament was originally scheduled to start Friday morning, however, due to inclement weather that is projected to impact the Birmingham-area the games were moved to afternoon start times.
Alabama State (1-7) will hit the field first against Nicholls State Friday afternoon at 4 pm, followed by a pair of games on Saturday against Eastern Illinois (11 am) and Nicholls State (4 pm). They will close the tournament with a pair of games against UAB on Sunday, beginning at 12:30 with both of those games carried by CUSA.TV.
Jazmine Dodd leads Alabama State at the plate with a .238 average with five hits including a pair of doubles, while
Morgan Gaither used a week in which she hit above .400 to tie Dodd with team-high honors. Gaither leads the team with three runs scored and has a home run to her credit this season. In the circle,
Skyler Sullivan has recorded a 5.67 earned run average in six appearances and picked up her first win of the season against Alabama A&M at the Black & Gold Tournament last weekend.
