MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After a mid-week win over in-state foe Samford on the road, Alabama State will play its home opener Saturday against Eastern Michigan with first pitch set for 6 pm.
Alabama State (1-3) and Eastern Michigan have never met in school history, and the two enter after the Hornets defeated Samford 11-9 on the road. In that win, Alabama State pounded out ten hits and scored nine runs with two outs in the win.
Jabronski Williams leads the Hornets with a .308 batting average and has a pair of extra base hits, including a home run in Jacksonville on opening weekend.
Hunter May is also over .300 for the year with a double and home run, while
Trenton Jamison is hitting .294 with a pair of home runs.
Payton Harris leads a trio of players with zero earned run averages, appearing a pair of games and logging four innings. He has allowed just one hit and struck out six, while
Breon Pooler and
Ryan Velazquez each have not given up an earned run.
Only those listed on the player pass list will be admitted into the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex due to socially distant seating, and Alabama State University and its athletic venues are mask mandatory.
