MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action this weekend, hosting Bradley in a three-game set at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex beginning Friday night.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm Friday night, and due to COVID-19 protocols only those listed on the player pass list will be admitted into the venue due to socially distant seating. Alabama State is a mask mandatory campus, as are each of the athletic venues.
Alabama State (2-8) ended a five-game losing streak (all by one run) with an 11-3 win over Samford in their only mid-week game, sweeping the season series against the Bulldogs. Alabama State averaged 11 runs per game in the two wins over Samford and will meet Bradley for the first time in school history this weekend.
Trenton Jamison leads the Hornets at the plate, hitting .341 with 14 hits, including a double and a pair of home runs. He has scored eight runs and drove in another seven while also slugging .512. Meanwhile,
Cristopher DeGuzman is hitting .306 with 11 hits including three doubles and a pair of triples. He is also slugging .500 for the year with five runs batted in.
Three relievers lead the Alabama State pitching staff with zero ERAs led by
Payton Harris in 9.1 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts. He is joined by
Alexander Castro and
Ryan Velazquez with perfect earned run averages, while
Breon Pooler (0-1) has recorded a 1.56 earned run average in three starts with 19 strikeouts.
The weekend series will be the third consecutive at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex for Alabama State, with all five games decided by one run.
