MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home for the fourth consecutive weekend at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex, hosting Mississippi Valley State in a three-game SWAC series beginning Friday.
Alabama State (3-10, 0-3 SWAC) enters the series after winning the finale against Bradley on Sunday 9-7 behind a pair of home runs from
AJ Gardner and
Cristopher DeGuzman. The Hornets have won six straight in the series and 11 of the last 12 over Mississippi Valley State (0-6. 0-3 SWAC), with the last win by the Delta Devils coming back on March 2, 2019.
The Hornets are led by DeGuzman at the plate, hitting .356 with six extra base hits and nine runs batted in, while
Trenton Jamison is at .302 with a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs. He has also driven a team-high 10 runs batted in. On the mound,
Ryan Velazquez has recorded a zero earned run average in five relief appearances, while
Payton Harris has recorded a 0.68 earned run average in six relief appearances.
Austin King (2.68),
Jordan Gould (3.14), and
Breon Pooler (3.72) lead all starters in earned run average for the Hornets.
Due to COVID-19 protocols only those listed on the player pass list will be admitted into the venue due to socially distant seating. Alabama State is a mask mandatory campus, as are each of the athletic venues.
