MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for the first time since opening weekend on Tuesday when they travel to Tallahassee (Fla.) to face Florida A&M.
Alabama State (9-11) has not played on the road since the opening week of the season when they opened with four straight road games. The last time the Hornets played on the road came against Samford back on February 23 in Birmingham, and since that point they have played 16 consecutive games at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
The game on Tuesday marks the beginning of a four-game road swing in which Alabama State will travel to Huntsville this weekend for a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against Alabama A&M.
Alabama State has won 11 of the last 20 meetings against Florida A&M, including winning 9-4 back on April 24, 2019. The Rattlers have won five of the last 11 meetings on the road in Tallahassee and have won two of the last three meetings between the two teams.
Trenton Jamison leads Alabama State at the plate, hitting .369 on the season with 31 hits that includes four doubles and four home runs. He also has scored 16 times and has driven in another 22 runs, while
Cristopher DeGuzman is hitting .333 with 23 hits that includes four doubles, a pair of triples and a home run.
Hunter May is hitting .318 on the season with a pair of home runs, while
AJ Gardner is hitting .302 with a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs for Alabama State.
On the mound,
Ryan Velazquez (0-0, 1 SV, 0.00 ERA) and
Payton Harris (0-0, 1 SV, 0.49 ERA) lead the Hornets out of the bullpen. Meanwhile,
Austin King (2-1, 2.38 ERA, 12 K),
Jordan Gould (3-0, 3.86 ERA, 25 K), and
Breon Pooler (1-2, 3.90 ERA, 35 K) lead the starters for the Hornets.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
