PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | After an unbeaten regular season, No. 1 seed Alabama State opens play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) soccer tournament against No. 8 seed Alcorn State Thursday morning at 10 am.
Alabama State (6-2-1, 6-0-1 SWAC) and Alcorn State (1-9, 0-8 SWAC) met back on March 21 in Montgomery with the Lady Hornets winning 4-0. Alabama State got a pair of goals from
McKenna Wiscombe including the game-winner just 15 minutes into the match, and goals from
Kassandra Schoen and
Teaggan Ilela.
The two teams have met 15 times since October 16, 2005 with Alabama State winning 11 of those matches, including 10 consecutive matches. Although Alabama State has been dominate in the last decade in the series, four matches have been decided by just one goal including a 3-2 victory back on October 11, 2019.
Ilela leads Alabama State in scoring with nine points (2 G / 5 A), while Schoen and Wiscombe lead the team with four goals each. The Lady Hornets have recorded four shutouts on the season which include a pair of combined shutouts and two others by
Madison Roop.
The winner of the opener will face the winner of No. 4 seed Jackson State and No. 5 seed Texas Southern on Friday afternoon beginning at 12:30 pm.
