GULFPORT, Miss. I Second-seeded Alabama State opens play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament Tuesday morning at 9 am against third-seeded Grambling State at the Gulfport Sports Complex.
Alabama State (15-27, 10-8 SWAC) and Grambling State are facing off for the first time this season, as the teams last met on March 8, 2020 before the season was shut down. The Hornets have won 20 of the last 23 meetings between the two schools and two consecutive meetings, both being in New Orleans, Louisiana at last year's HBCU Classic at Wesley-Barrow Stadium.

Jaeda Gardner (.346 / .411 / .391) leads Alabama State at the plate with 37 hits including five doubles, 11 RBI and 12 stolen bases. SWAC Newcomer of the Year
Madison Myers – a two-way player for Alabama State – is second on the team in hits with 32 and has logged 44.2 innings this season for Alabama State with 20 strikeouts in the circle, while
Kindall DeRamus (.254 / .333 / .298) leads the team in runs batted in with 18 to go along with 16 runs scored and 19 stolen bases.
Skyler Sullivan (14-9, 4.34 ERA, 1.49 WHIP) leads the team and conference in wins in the circle, while logging 159.2 innings this season. She has allowed 89 runs (77 earned) while striking out 82.
