MOBILE, Ala. | The Alabama State women finished third at the Azalea City Classic with four runners finishing in the top 20, while the men had three runners finish inside the top 25 overall.
The Lady Hornets finished behind Troy and South Alabama, with
Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) leading the way with a sixth place finish in a time of 20:45.5. She finished just seven seconds behind Carolina Sall of Troy in a time of 20:38.90, while
Vinnelle Grant (Amityville, N.Y.) came across the line 13th overall in a time of 21:32.50.
Meanwhile,
Rebecca Bernadia (Turk and Caicos Island) finished 15th overall in a time of 21:59.30, while
Jamila Thomas (Lewisville, Texas) finished 19th overall in a time of 22:44.40.
Penina Chelangat (Eldoret, Kenya) rounded out the top 20 with a time of 22:41.30.
On the men's side, Alabama State did not score as a team with only three runners competing in the race led by
Ricky Thornton (Indianapolis, Ind.) in 20th place overall with a time of 18:41.20, finishing just six seconds behind Lance Paquette of Mobile (18:35.0).
Lovensky Demelien (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) came across the line 22nd overall in a time of 18:58.20, while
Preston Walton (Jonesboro, Ga.) finished 23rd overall in a time of 18:59.90.

Alabama State will run for the third consecutive weekend, running next Friday in Montevallo at the Falcon Classic.
