Alabama State wins three matches to open SWAC play at West Roundup

DALLAS, Texas | Alabama State opened Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action Friday at USA Bowl at the SWAC Roundup with three wins in five matches.

Alabama State (43-26, 3-2 SWAC) opened conference play with a 936-914 victory over Texas Southern, opening the new year with a victory. They dropped their next match to Jackson State 844-822, before answering with an 890-819 victory over Alabama A&M.

The final two matches were split on the opening day by the Lady Hornets, dropping an 858-843 match to Prairie View A&M before defeating Grambling State 740-607 to close out the day.

Alabama State finds itself in a four-way tie with Texas Southern, Southern and Jackson State in second place just one game back of Prairie View A&M after the first day of play. The Lady Hornets are in fourth place overall in total pins with 4,231 – less than 100 pins back of Prairie View A&M.

Bailee Chapman (Gonzales, La.) and Savanna Razor (Columbia, S.C.) find themselves in 10th and 11th overall in individual play heading into day two of the tournament.

UP NEXT
Alabama State returns to action on day two of the SWAC West Roundup with five matches beginning with Southern. The Lady Hornets are also scheduled to face Florida A&M, Texas Southern, Jackson State, and Alabama A&M.
