Jones Named to ALL-SWAC Second Team, Alabama State Women Place Fourth, Men Finish Seventh at SWAC Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Alabama State men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Tallahassee, Florida today to compete in the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship at Apalachee Regional Park. The women's team finished in fourth place with Shamia Jones finishing in sixth place overall while the men's team finished in seventh place.

WOMEN'S 5K RACE

Junior Shamia Jones led the charge today for the Lady Hornets as she finished in sixth place out of 72 runners. Jones clocked a time of 19:58.1 to finish the day. Freshman Taliah Wickett completed the race in 20th place with a final time of 21:41.7. Morgan O'Neal finished with a time of 22:24.1 for a 30th place finish while freshman Deleverna Broomfield finished in 38th place (23:17.8). 

Yazmine Grace came in 43rd place (23:55.0), followed by Zackariya Beasley in 62nd (27:24.0). Jasmine Kennerson rounds out the Lady Hornets in the field as she finished in 69th place. 

The Lady Hornets finished with a total time of 1:51:16.70 and an average time of 22:15.34. 

Bethune-Cookman claimed the championship with a total time of 1:47:16.20.

MEN'S 8K RACE

The men's team finished with a total time of 2:24:15.30 for a seventh place finish. Freshman Christian Myles finished the 8K in 23rd place with an official time of 27:53.0 to lead the way for the Hornets. 

Freshman Jon Coulter claimed a 30th place finish with a time of 28:28.8, followed by fellow freshman teammate Amos Beadle in 33rd place (28:44.2). 

Junior Khabeeba Mills finished in 41st place (29:31.0), followed by freshman Abdiqadir Mohamed (29:38.3) in 42nd. 

Junior Preston Walton wrapped up the 8K in 50 the place (31:18.5).

ALL-SWAC SELECTIONS
