BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama State's
Kalysia Bates,
Temperance Chatman,
Madison Beasley, and
Brooke Adams to SWAC Volleyball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during the past weekend of conference play. The Lady Hornets have won six straight matches and 11 of their last 12 including a 9-1 record in conference play this season.
Kalysia Bates earned offensive player of the week after recording 32 kills and a total of 40 points across three matches. The Phenix City native tallied 15 kills against conference foe Alabama A&M, six kills against Mississippi Valley, and 11 kills against Jackson State which helped the Lady Hornets to a 3-0 record to conclude the weekend. She is currently ranked first in the conference in total blocks (76), second in total points (299.5), third in hitting (.296), and fifth in total kills (224).
Temperance Chatman was tabbed defensive player of the week after registering 29 digs across three matches. Chatman garnered 13 digs against Alabama A&M, five against Mississippi Valley State, and 11 against Jackson State. She is currently ranked second in the league in total digs with 288.
Madison Beasley was named setter of the week after recording a total of 34 assists across the past three matches. The senior setter posted three helpers against Alabama A&M, 11 against Mississippi Valley State, and 20 in a win over Jackson State. She is also currently ranked tenth in the league in total aces with 19.Â
Brooke Adams was selected as newcomer of the week after registering a total of 15 assists, 12 digs, five aces, and five points across three matches against Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State, and Jackson State. Adams is currently ranked third in the league in total service aces (26).
The Alabama State women's volleyball team looks to win their seventh straight as they head to Prairie View, Texas this weekend to take on Grambling State at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 30) followed by Prairie View at 7 p.m.
