STEPHENVILLE, Texas | Alabama State will head to Texas this weekend to compete in the Whataburger Softball Invitational hosted by Tarleton State starting on Friday morning.
 
The tournament also includes Prairie View A&M, Syracuse, and host Tarleton State along with the Hornets and will be held in the Tarleton Softball Complex.

GAME NOTES

• Tarleton State is hosting the Whataburger Softball Invitational, with Syracuse, Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi participating along with Alabama State.
• The Hornets will play five games in three days, starting Friday at 9:30 am CT with Texas A&M Corpus Christi before taking on Prairie View A&M at 2:30 pm. Alabama State will face Corpus Christi in a rematch on Saturday at noon, followed by host Tarleton State at 5 pm, and wrap up weekend play against Syracuse at 9 am on Sunday morning.
• Alabama State is coming off a road doubleheader against SEC opponent Mississippi State on Wednesday. The Hornets dropped the first game 10-4, before falling 8-0 in game two.
• Junior Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) leads the Hornets so far this season, batting .450 at the plate in six games. The outfielder has registered nine hits, scored six runs, and drove in three.
• Transfer Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) has also been productive at the plate with a .333 average along with six hits and six RBI. She has also started three games in the circle, including a shutout along with 17 strikeouts against Purdue Fort Wayne in her Hornet debut.
• Prairie View A&M is 0-7 coming into the tournament, dropping matches against Cleveland State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Incarnate Word last weekend. They also recently fell in a mid-week doubleheader against Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Wednesday.
• Syracuse is currently undefeated at 5-0 after winning the Best on the Bayou Classic last weekend. The Orange have scored double-digit runs in three of five games on the year, including a 22-run outburst against Southern (Feb. 11).
• Texas A&M Corpus Christi is coming into the weekend at 5-4 overall, after going 1-4 in their season opening tournament at Texas A&M. The Islanders are currently on a four-game win streak however, as they won a pair of home games against Prairie View A&M and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
