JONESBORO, Ark. | In a tournament full of nationally ranked programs, Alabama State pulled out a pair of wins on the final day of the Mid-Winter Classic hosted by Arkansas State on Sunday.
Alabama State (65-40) picked up a victory in their first match of the day over Kentucky Wesleyan 4-2 after dropping the first two games of the match. The Hornets were able to come back with a 223-180 win in game three and a 184-169 victory in game four to even the match up. They were able to take the lead with a 214-181 victory in game three, before sealing the match by one pin (191-190) in the sixth game.
They advanced with their second victory of the day, a 4-2 win over Jackson State after coming back from down two. After Jackson State on the first two games of the match, Alabama State came back with a 185-147 win in game three and a 169-126 win in game four to even the match up. The Hornets were able to pull ahead with a 192-159 victory in game five, before sealing the win with a 189-171 victory in game six.
In their final match of the day, Alabama State fell to Lincoln Memorial 4.5-2.5, despite splitting the first two games and dropping game three by one pin. The match was even at 2-all before the Railsplitters won the final two games of the match.
