MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After a three-game trip to New Orleans, Alabama State returns home on Tuesday night for their home opener against Samford at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
First pitch is set for 6 pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance with a season ticket package by calling (334) 229-4551 or by visiting BamaStateSports.com. Alabama State University is a mask mandatory campus and masks must be worn in all athletic facilities, and social distancing is encouraged throughout the facility.
Alabama State (1-2) enters the game following a Sunday loss to New Orleans but picked up a win over Florida A&M on Saturday at the Andre Dawson Classic. The Hornets hit .252 as a team in the three games, led by
Chris Lewis (Alabaster, Ala.) at .500 with five hits in 10 at-bats. Four other players hit over .300 on the weekend including
Angel Jimenez (Santo Domingo, DR) at .429 with a home run and
Hunter May (Slidell, La.) at .417 with a home run over the weekend.
Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) hit .364 at the Classic with his first career home run, while
Ian Matos (Toa Alta, PR) hit .333 with three runs scored.
A pair of relievers highlighted the weekend for Alabama State entering their home opener including
Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) in the season opener. The freshman went 6.1 innings in relief and recorded 1.42 earned run average and a 0.79 WHIP, allowing just one run off four hits with nine strikeouts. Meanwhile,
Payton Harris recorded a 3.00 earned run average after working 3.0 innings against Florida A&M with three strikeouts.
Samford (3-0) enters the weekend after a sweep over Arkansas State at home, led by Maurice Hampton, Jr. who hit .500 over the weekend, while Garrett Howe (.462) and Towns King (.455) each hit over .400 for the Bulldogs.
