D'IBERVILLE, Miss. |Â Alabama State opened a weekend of play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) East Roundup on Friday with five wins on the day.
Alabama State (54-29, 14-5 SWAC) started the day with a 993-891 victory over Texas Southern, followed by a 1,042-1,000 win over Jackson State and a 1,001-860 win over Alabama A&M. The Hornets later defeated Prairie View A&M 1,029-932 and Grambling State 875-719 to round out the day and remain undefeated in the tournament.

The Hornets end day one with the best win-loss record and have knocked down 4,940 total pins for an average of 197.6 pins per game, just two behind Prairie View A&M at 4,942.

Savanna Razor (Columbia, S.C.) leads Alabama State so far with 1,119 total pins, landing her in second place with a 233.8 average, while
Alahna DeGruy (Kenner, La.) also finished in the top ten with a seventh-place finish with 1,039 total pins and a 207.8 average.

Lyric O'Steen (Southfield, Mich.) was the final Hornet in the top 15 after day one, (979 total pins, 195.8 per game) and was followed by
Bailee Chapman (Gonzales, La.) and
Emani Davis (Flushing, Mich.) finished 24th and 30th, knocking down 908 and 748 pins respectively.

Alabama State is now just one game behind current SWAC leader Prairie View A&M in the standings and lead in number of pins with 17,061 total pins in conference play so far this season.

Alabama State returns to action on day two of the SWAC East Roundup with matches beginning with Southern. The Lady Hornets are also scheduled to face Florida A&M along with Texas Southern, Jackson State, and Alabama A&M for the second time in two days. Â
