GRAMBLING, La. | Breon Pooler (Huntsville, Ala.) and
Luis Rodriguez (Canovanas, PR) combined to scatter six hits in a 2-1 non-conference victory over Grambling State on Friday afternoon.
Pooler (3-0) was magnificent in the start, going 6.2 innings and allowed just one run (earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts. The graduate right hander was never in trouble, giving up a solo home run in the second. Meanwhile, Rodriguez picked up his first save, working 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit while recording one strikeout.
Dilan Espinal (Canovanas, PR) picked up a pair of hits for the Hornets, finishing the day 2-for-4 at the plate.
How It Happened
- T1 | Alabama State got on the board early with a sacrifice fly from Angel Jimenez (Santo Domingo, DR) to score Trenton Jamison (Atlanta, Ga.) for their first lead (1-0, Alabama State).
- B2 | Grambling State scored in the inning on a solo home run from Trevor Hatton to tie game (1-1).
- T6 | Ian Matos (Toa Alta, PR) singled to right to drive home Jimenez (2-1, Alabama State).
Postgame Notes
- Pooler picked up his third win of the season in four starts, while Rodriguez picked up his first save of the season and his career.
- Alabama State has won the last four regular season meetings between the two schools dating back to last season when the two met in Montgomery.
- Jamison extended his on-base streak to 13 games by reaching base on Friday, while Matos extended his hit streak to five games with his sixth inning single.
