MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State split a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) games with Jackson State on Saturday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex, clinching the series with a 6-5 victory in the second game of the doubleheader. The Tigers were able to come away with a 9-2 victory in the opening game of the day.
Alabama State (14-15, 6-3 SWAC) used another outstanding outing from
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) on the mound in the second game of the doubleheader. Greenlee (10-7) picked up her second win of the weekend working 7.0 innings allowing just five runs (three earned) on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts. The Hornets were able to spray around nine hits in the second game of the doubleheader with
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) picking up three and
Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) picking up a pair.
In the opener, Alabama State was held to just three hits while committing five errors in the loss.
Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) suffered the loss, working 3.0 innings in relief and allowing seven runs (three earned) in relief of starter
Ashley Pye (Stockton, Calif.) who worked 4.0 innings in the start. The Hornets were held to just three hits in the opening game of the doubleheader with
Alex Preston (Stockton, Calif.) picking up a pair of those hits.
How It Happened (Game 1)
- T1 | Jackson State used a lead-off triple by Mari Stephens, the Tigers got on the board with a sacrifice fly by Lauren Stewart with one out in the inning (1-0, Jackson State).
- B2 | Alabama State battled back to tie the game on an RBI double by Preston to right center to score Destinee Dixon (Bullard, Texas) from second base, before being lifted by a pinch runner at third in Lauryn Maher (Atoka, Tenn.) who scored on a wild pitch to give Alabama State the lead (2-1, Alabama State).
- T3 | Jackson State tied the game back up in the top half of the inning when Lauren Stewart ground out to third that allowed Stephens to score (2-2).
- T5 | The Tigers used a two-run home run from Stewart to regain the lead (4-2, Jackson State).
- T6 | Stephens started the scoring for the Tigers in the inning with an RBI single before Alexis Arrendondo drove in another run on an RBI groundout. The Tigers took advantage of another error in the inning by Alabama State to bring in another run (7-2, Jackson State).
- T7 | Stephens reached on a fielding error allowing Monica Serrano to score before Arrendondo singled up the middle to drive in another run (9-2, Jackson State).
How It Happened (Game 2)
- B1 | Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) reached on an infield hit and then stole second base before a Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) bunt single got her to third. The two combined for a double steal for the game's first run in the opening frame (1-0, Alabama State).
- B2 | Morgan Gaither (Brookwood, Ala.) singled to right center to drive in Preston, before coming around to score herself on a triple by DeRamus with two outs in the inning. DeRamus came around to score on a Dodd single to center for another run (4-0, Alabama State).
- T3 | Jackson State got on the board with a pair of sacrifice flies in the inning (4-2, Alabama State).
- B4 | Greenlee doubled in the inning and then came around to score on a fielding error on a ball that got lost in the sun with the infield fading back to make a play, before Dodd came around to score on a two-out throwing error by the Tigers (6-2, Alabama State).
- T6 | Stewart added another RBI with a single through the left side (6-3, Jackson State).
- T7 | The Tigers added a pair of runs in the inning with a single through the left side and a stolen base (6-5, Jackson State).

Alabama State hits the road for a pair of contests against nationally ranked Power 5 opponents. The Hornets head to Tuscaloosa to face No. 4 Alabama on Tuesday night with first pitch scheduled for 5 pm, followed by a trip to No. 18 Auburn on Wednesday with a 5 pm start.
