Alabama State hits the road to face UAB in Birmingham on Wednesday

The meeting is the first of two between the two schools this season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road this week for four games beginning with a midweek contest in Birmingham against UAB. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm on Wednesday afternoon and is the first of two meetings between the two schools this season.

The game will be carried by CUSA.tv and the weather calls for cloudy skies with a 15 percent chance of rain, with highs in the mid-50s at game time. This year's first matchup will be played at Young Memorial Field on the downtown campus.

Leading Off
  • The game with the Blazers will be the fifth meeting for Alabama State this season against a team from the state of Alabama having already played Samford (twice), Alabama, and Auburn. It will also be the fourth road game against an in-state foe through the first month of the season.
  • Alabama State and UAB have met 15 times since 2010 with the Blazers holding a 12-3 advantage in those games, including winning the last four in the series. Alabama State last won on February 20, 2018, in Montgomery on a walk-off for a 7-6 victory.
About the Hornets
  • Alabama State enters the contest after a weekend sweep of St. Bonaventure, their second consecutive weekend series win. In the three games against the Bonnies, Alabama State scored 40 runs averaging 13.3 runs per game.

  • UAB enters the week at 8-3 after winning their series against Alabama A&M in Birmingham and falling to Auburn in a midweek game on the road.
  • Caleb Floyd leads the team in hitting at .457 with a 1.164 OPS and has collected 21 hits through 11 games this season including six extra base hits. He is joined by John Marc Mullins (.429) and Christian Hall (.400) at .400 or better on the season, while the team has collected 15 home runs with six players collecting multiple home runs.
  • UAB has recorded a 4.55 earned run average this season with four players at 2.04 or lower so far this season.
